By Nabeela Damji VIBE 105 recently had the chance to sit down with one of Toronto’s most diverse and talented groups. Los Poetas are a band thriving in Toronto, a city that represents and respects their varying backgrounds. The group’s members have roots from El Salvador, Chile, Argentina, Panama and Colombia. Los Poetas are a Latin Hip Hop group led by Louwop, Ché Uno and Vancouver-based producer Vago, with vocalist and recording artist Afantu. The band is supported by Panama born DJ Grouch, who represented #TeamBlue at this years edition of 24 DJ’s curated by VIBE. Backed by a live salsa band, Los Poetas brings Latin culture to life like you’ve never heard before.
In May, the group dropped their six track mixtape Cartas Vol 1 which included collaborations with up and coming artist Shaqisdope. Recently Los Poetas played gigs at both Our Latin Thing 2 and at Nathan Philips Square as a part of the Canada 150 celebrations. They have also made an appearance on CBC’s Big City Small World. Los Poetas Cartas Vol 1 is currently available for download. You can follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @wearelospoetas. Be sure to check out Los Poetas performing at Unity Festival on July 15th at David Pecaut Square! |
