This film is actually an excerpt from the popular series written and directed by Jamaican born Mary Wells. We sat down at the Royal Cinema in Toronto to see what Ms. Sugga was all about.

Oseyi and the Masqueraders is a coming of age story of a 10-year-old boy growing up in the remote village of Colihaut, Dominica, who finally comes face to face with his fear of a group of masqueraders called the Bann Mové. In a humorous yet authentic delivery, Director, Alwin Bully, and Producers, Anita Bully and Romola Lucas, present a story of cultural pride, ancestral reverence, and dutiful lineage.

This year 12 filmmakers from the African diaspora were selected to participate in the Incubator program and prepare for their ‘Big Pitch’. This program includes 6-8 weeks of online training and one week of intense training, right here in Toronto. The Red Hot Mixer is the perfect way for participants to let their hair down a bit after all of that hard work. They alsoAlso they get the opportunity to mix and mingle with top filmmaking talent and stars of the African and Caribbean communities.

And we’re off! The 14th annual CaribbeanTales International Film Festival’s opening night started off with a bang on September 4th. With a street party to commence the festivities, and moving onto the Royal Cinema big screen, the resonant theme of ‘stage to film’ was distinct throughout the sold-out event.

The 14th annual CaribbeanTales Film Festival (CTFF) media launch was colourful, and the vibe at The Royal Cinema was exciting. Everyone was eagerly anticipating the special preview of Yardie, which actually released last year, but did not make it to the film festival previously due to unforeseen circumstances.
