Today Asian musicians worldwide are making a huge breakthrough in mainstream music - with popular boy bands like BTS and girl groups like Blackpink.
Asian musicians are finally getting the flowers they deserve and in honour of Asian Heritage Month, VIBE105 discusses FIVE emerging musicians of Asian heritage who you need to look out for in the music scene.
Indian-American artist Raveena is a new up-and-coming artist who captivates her listeners with her dreamy R&B sound. Ravenna is not shy of including her roots in her music as she often draws from Indian and American influences both visually and sonically. Lyrically, Raveena explores spirituality, healing from trauma, sensuality and opening up about her experiences of sexual assault.

Manila based R&B artist Jess Connelly thrives in her catchy, electronic style music. Her wavy voice layered into contemporary R&B tones paired with sultry and intimate lyrics are a way to catch everyone’s attention. The 25-year-old artist’s passion to create new aged Filipino music has brought her to a state where she is ready to take her music to a completely new level. She is slowly rising to fame, as she has been one of the few Asian artist featured on Billboard with her song On My Way Up.

Indonesian singer-songwriter Nicole Zefanya - better known as NIKI - has stabilized her place as a rising R&B breakout star. NIKI captivates listeners with playful melodic sounds and NIKI’s lyrics push her further into the pop territory than traditional R&B. But her catchy style makes her different from the rest.
Currently signed with 88rising record label, NIKI uses her music to empower young Asian artist underrepresented in the American music industry.

Mitski is a Japanese-American singer songwriter who captivates her listeners with eerie and mysterious vocals. Securing her place in the indie rock scene, Mitski uses her lyrics to story-tell and has released four studio albums which explore (among other heavy topics) racial identity and issues of belonging.

The 24-year-old Hailee Steinfeld is a triple threat. The part Filipino singer-songwriter-actress signed a recording contract with Republic Records in 2015 and is releasing charting hits ever since.
Best known for staring in Pitch Perfect, Hailee dived into the music scene with pop jams that often embody notions of female empowerment.
