By Antonia Altomonte This year the 12th edition of the Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture is going down on August 9 to 19. The festival promises a celebration of community and culture through music and arts in Toronto. Since its inception in 2007, Manifesto has been the city’s biggest celebration of Hip Hop culture and this year’s theme is going ‘Back to Where it all Started’. Headlining for the year’s free show is the 25-year-old Rastafarian Jamaican Reggae artist Chronixx and his band Zincfence Redemption playing on August 17 at Nathan Phillips Square. Chronixx and his band are currently on tour right now and will only be making two trips to Canada; the Osheaga Festival in Montreal on August 4 and, of course, at Manifesto. The group will then be touring through the States. So, this is definitely a performance I am not going to miss out on because it looks like Chronixx won’t be coming back to see us for at least the rest of the year. Chronixx killed it on his EP ‘Dread & Terrible back’ in 2014 and if you’re a Chronixx fan (like me) you’re probably familiar with the release of his album ‘Chronology’- with a lot of jamming tunes - that he released in July of 2017. So, we can expect it to be an evening with heavy Reggae Vibes and Big Tunes! I’m sure he’ll be performing all of his major hits and I can’t wait! Here’s one of his latest music videos for the song ‘I Can’ off the album ‘Chronology’. © Chronixx | YouTube Manifesto will also showcase a potpourri of visual art and dance throughout the festival at different locations.
