The setting of Boogie is in Queens, New York, not far from Popâs hometown of Brooklyn. In his last interview before his untimely demise, Pop briefly spoke to Angie Martinez about his role in Boogie and how much he enjoyed acting and wanted to continue to pursue it.
âEddie Huang paid tribute to Pop Smoke after his murder, sharing some videos of Popâs audition for the role of âMonkâ, writing, âThis was the first time I met Pop. He got the script and a day later was auditioning at the gym in my building. I asked him if he knew the lines and he said âyeaâ, so I told him to put the phone away. He was a little stiff the first take but in three takes, he got it.â Eddie goes on to say how excited he was when Pop got his lines and speaks on how he is the most talented person he has ever met in his life.
