By Antonia Altomonte Dancehall Reggae legend Buju Banton has been incarcerated since 2011 and sentenced to ten years and a month in federal prison for drug related charges (2009). Flash forward to now, Buju Banton will be a free man this December and plans to return to Jamaica after his release (on December 8, 2018), even though he still has five years of probation to serve. Buju Banton’s team recently announced on Twitter that he will be going on a post-prison “Long walk to Freedom” world tour for the summer of 2019. They posted this with the caption “The anticipation continues to build, looking forward to seeing you all soon. Stay Tuned! Buju’s going on tour six months after his release and his first performance is scheduled to take place in his homeland in Jamaica on March 23rd, 2019. His next show is planned to take place in Nassau, Bahamas on March 30th and then Trinidad and Tobago on April 22nd, 2019. More tour dates will be announced within the next few weeks to come. Names like Beres Hammon and Agent Sasco are speculated to be special guests joining him on stage for the “Long Walk To Freedom” Tour. © Buju Banton VEVO | YouTube The release of Buju Banton has been highly anticipated so you know these shows are going to be a big deal. I really hope he makes a stop in Toronto because that would be an epic sold out show, for sure. Buju Banton is in high demand and it’s said he could get up to US$100,000 (J12.5 million) for each show at major music festivals during his tour. We can also expect a brand new studio album from Buju Banton with even a Rihanna Collab in 2019. His last album “Before The Dawn” (2010) was awarded a Grammy for the best Reggae Album in 2011. Since his incarceration, Buju’s fans haven’t had much in the way of new music. © Buju Banton VEVO | YouTube Check out the official “Long Walk To Freedom Tour” website (still under construction) Show love and stay tuned by following him on Facebook and Twitter @Bujuofficial.
