Jay-Z made major moves for Father’s Day by openly supporting organizations such as Southerners on New Ground and Color of Change, which are organizations that take charge against the exploitive bail bond industry.
Jay remembered his own history and how he is able to relate to those impacted by the bail bond situation, saying “If you’re from neighbourhoods like the Brooklyn one I grew up in, if you’re unable to afford a private attorney, then you can be disappeared into our jail system simply because you can’t afford bail. Millions of people are separated from their families for months at a time – not because they are convicted of committing a crime, but because they are accused of committing a crime.”
Southerners on New Ground and Color of Change are among the organizations on the front line who did a fundraising drive last month to bail out 100 mother’s for Mother’s Day and aim to have done the same for Father’s Day.
