Drake, who famously hosted the Juno Awards in 2011 and was snubbed for all the awards he was up for, has made an appearance on last nights televised awards…Showing an immense amount of Love towards Nelly Furtado with a heartfelt speech for her Hall Of Fame induction.
But Drake also didn’t let the Juno’s off the hook for their high key past disrespect…And we are glad he did!
Drake has not submitted his music for Juno contention since being snubbed.
“Even though I know you’re still thinking about those six awards you gave to Shad when you snubbed Take Care when I hosted the 40th anniversary of your award show. This is about Nelly,” he continued.
At the time in 2011, fellow Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall said he thought it was disrespectful: “He had one of the biggest years ever in rap history as far as being a Canadian, they have him hosting the entire thing – that just looks terrible on them more than him.”
Furtado and Drake have been friends for a number of years, with Drake citing Furtado as one of his favourite artists. Drake was also one of the catalysts that inspired her to release new music after a seven-year hiatus after he invited her to perform at his “All Canadian North Stars” show in Toronto in 2022.
