Drivers across Ontario will soon be able to hit the gas a little more, as speed limits are set to increase on several provincial highways next month.

The province is permanently raising the maximum speed limit to 110 km/h on a number of highway stretches, although none of the changes apply to highways in Toronto or the GTA.

While some drivers are disappointed their daily commute won’t be getting any faster, others say it’s probably for the best given the traffic and driving habits in the region.

The higher limits are intended for select highway sections where officials say it’s appropriate to safely support faster travel.

Either way, plenty of Ontario drivers are weighing in on whether the change is a good idea—or if 110 km/h is already slower than what some people are driving anyway.

New speed limits on provincial highways

Starting last month, the Ontario government began permanently increasing the speed limit to 110 km/hour on certain sections of provincial highways, including Highway 401 from Highway 15 to Highway 16 and Highway 416 from Cedar Grove Road to Highway 401.

Throughout August, the provincial government will continue increasing the posted speed limit to 110 km/hour on more sections of provincial highways, including:
