The project is currently called the Untitled Male Friendship Show. The plot follows a 30-year-old barber named Menzel and his best friend JB.

JB is a professional boxer. His career is rapidly taking off in the ring. The story explores the heavy pressure of ambition and money on their friendship.

The new pilot reunites Rae with Prentice Penny. He will direct the first episode and work as the main showrunner.

Rae recently admitted to feeling restless with her career during a podcast interview. “I only feel successful when my sh*t is on the air,” she said.

This pilot marks a major return to HBO for Rae. She previously co-created the massive hit series Insecure for the network.
