Washington was presented with an honorary Palme d’Or Award on Monday before the screening of his film Highest 2 Lowest, directed by Spike Lee.
The Palme d’Or is the highest prize awarded each year at Cannes to the director of the Best Feature Film in competition, so Washington’s award is special.
Festival chief Thierry Frémaux said, “It’s a very special day. Denzel, because you are here, we want to make something special for you … it’s a kind of way for us to tell you our adoration, what you have done in cinema.”

Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of Canada’s most renowned female DJs, with a career spanning over 30 years. Known for her contributions to community and music organizations, she made history as the DJ for the 2023 JUNO Awards’ tribute to 50 years of hip-hop, sharing the stage with Canadian icons like Kardinal Offishall, Michie Mee, and Choclair in a performance watched by 2.2 million viewers nationwide.
