The world’s most wanted drug lord is dead following a massive military operation in Mexico on Sunday.
Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” was the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

He died from injuries sustained during a high-stakes raid in the mountain town of Tapalpa.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau called the mission a “great development.” He labeled El Mencho one of the most ruthless kingpins in history.

The takedown triggered a wave of violence across eight states. Cartel members are currently torching buses and blocking major highways.
Chaos at airports in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta has forced the cancellation of dozens of flights.
U.S. and Canadian officials issued urgent shelter-in-place orders for citizens who are in hard-hit areas. The region is now bracing for further retaliation.
