By Lizzie Poliakova Images By Si Sun The station wants to celebrate International Women’s Day with you! Here is the second part of our VIBE 105 article dedicated to celebrating the amazing female staff in our office. Take a peek into their colourful lives and be inspired by their advice and words of wisdom. Check out Part 1. Nina Kalirai Program Development Assistant Nina is the multi-tasker here at VIBE 105. Between doing music hits, news hits, and being a part of Hashtag on Sundays, she is always able to help all of us at the station in the endless amount of work that we do. Are there any women who inspire you? I look up to my mom because she does a lot, from taking care of me, my sisters, and sick family members to making everyone dinner every night, dropping and picking us up, and working full time on top of it all. She also used to volunteer at my school every day from pre-school until grade one and did the same for my sisters before going back to work after having us. She's like a supermom. Is there a special way you overcome obstacles? First thing I do when I come across an obstacle is take a nap. LOL. After my nap, I'm usually a lot calmer. I like to make to-do lists when I have obstacles to remind me of how far I've gotten and what steps I have left. What are important lessons in life every woman should learn on her own? People will not take you seriously or will try to take advantage of you and your "kindness" because you’re a woman. I don't think it's a nice lesson to learn, and unfortunately that just means we have to work 10 times harder to get to where we want to get to. Ada Ohh On Air-Ambassador You might know Ada as the second half of the A-Team (which you should catch Friday evenings if you still haven’t). When not on air, she is busy doing her internship as part of the VX3 Exchange program and creating content for the station. What keeps you going every day? What keeps me going every day is my constant fear of becoming complacent. I never want to be comfortable in my environment. I constantly push myself to evolve and seek out new information, and experiences, and people who are likeminded and care to share this with me too. Are there any women who inspire you or anyone who you look up to? First and foremost, the ever-loving mother, Oprah Winfrey; then Nina Simone, for her unapologetic attitude, socio-political influence, and just being a living rock star. What are important lessons in life every woman should learn on her own? Self-awareness is crucial. You're going to need to constantly examine yourself and reassess yourself, your life, your situation, your friends, etc. Jasmine Francis Ad Trafficking Assistant Jazzy is responsible for making sure that ads are scheduled appropriately throughout the day as she is the ad trafficking assistant. This girl is always brightening up the office with her radiant smile and positive attitude. What advice can you give to women who are striving to succeed? You have to take what you get till you get where you’re going. What are important lessons in life every woman should learn on her own? It is okay to not be perfect, and it’s okay to not fit into the norms society has created for us. The process of learning to love yourself unconditionally is a lesson all women have to go through on their own. What is a lesson in life that you had to learn the hard way Some people are only meant to be in your life for a season. “I think one of the most important things women should do (or I guess any person should do) is live in their truth. You will be able to accomplish amazing things while being true to yourself and nothing can take away that feeling.” Lizzie Poliakova Copywriter Yours truly, I don’t just write articles for VIBE; I’m also the copywriter and part of the social media team working hard behind the scenes. So whenever you like our posts, What keeps you going every day? The fear that I would have to be dependent on someone my whole life makes me work harder on a regular basis. Every woman should strive for the freedom of not being chained to someone else because she is afraid that she would not be able to support herself. What are important lessons in life every woman should learn on her own? We should not compete with other women; they are our allies. We have a much bigger fight than to start petty arguments with one another about the trivial things. Name calling and labelling will get you nowhere. What is a lesson in life that you had to learn the hard way? Sometimes it’s okay to ask for help because doing everything on your own can burn you out very quickly. These are just glimpses into the inspirational minds and lives of some of our female staff, there are a lot more untold stories that every woman has. Help other voices be heard by celebrating and appreciating women every day and not just on a special day once a year. Keep celebrating women with VIBE 105.
