After nearly 40 years at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, the IndyCar Series race will be held on a new street circuit in Markham Centre. The move is part of a new five-year agreement between the event promoters and the City of Markham.

Reasons for the move

FIFA World Cup conflict: A primary catalyst for the change was the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will require the use of Exhibition Place (including BMO Field) during the time of the Indy, making it logistically impossible to hold both events. Rather than taking a one-year hiatus, organizers chose to seek a new, long-term venue.

Need for expansion: Organizers noted that Exhibition Place was becoming constrained, with limited space for spectator seating and less-than-ideal sightlines in some areas.

Securing a long-term agreement: Event promoters were tired of negotiating one-year contracts with Toronto and sought a multi-year deal for stability.

Strategic location: Organizers found that most of their attendees come from outside downtown Toronto, making Markham a more accessible location for a significant portion of their fanbase. Markham also has a strong local connection to racing, as Indianapolis 500 winner James Hinchcliffe was born there.
