Hov just released his classic track “WISHING ON A STAR” everywhere for the first time ever, on the track’s 28 year anniversary

Despite the track being tied to one of Jay-Z’s strongest eras, the track never received a proper US commercial release. Instead, it was issued only as an international single in the UK, Europe and partially in Japan.

Back in 1998, labels often released region-exclusive singles to extend album cycles overseas without interfering with US radio strategy.

Because of that decision, the track became a deep-cut cult favorite among Jay-Z fans rather than a mainstream hit in America.
