Jay-Z is celebrating a major milestone this weekend as the United States marks its 250th birthday.

He released his 12th studio album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” exactly 13 years ago on July 4, 2013.

Despite earning mixed reviews at the time of its release, the project successfully topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Critics said the album had a “transitional nature” and pointed out his “wavering enthusiasm” for creating music during that specific era.

However, reviewers also said standout tracks like “Tom Ford” and “Holy Grail” featuring Beyonce perfectly showcase his “legendary lyrical skills.”
