Nas Crowned BMI Icon at Awards Night

Nas was honored with the BMI Icon Award at the 2026 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

The award recognizes his significant contributions and influence in hip-hop songwriting over the years.

During the ceremony held on Wednesday in Beverly Hills, he expressed disbelief at becoming a BMI partner.

The award presentation featured praise from presenters, including Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, who called Nas a “poet and philosopher” rather than an ordinary rapper, emphasizing his unique approach to songwriting.

BMI’s recognition also included Kendrick Lamar named R&B/hip-hop songwriter of the year for his contributions to six of the year’s most-performed songs, with “Luther” officially crowned as BMI’s R&B/hip-hop song of the year.
