‘Star Search’ Reboot Ordered at Netflix…First Details Revealed of TV Show

Star Search is coming back!

Netflix ordered a reboot of the popular ’80s and ’90s show that launched the careers of Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle, Christina Aguilera, Adam Sandler and many others.
The show will air live twice a week with a livestream that includes viewer voting that determines which contestants advance to the next round.
“Each episode will spotlight the best up-and-coming performers across four categories — music, dance, variety/comedy, kids — as they compete for their shot at stardom. With an arced competition structure and weekly eliminations, the series builds dramatic momentum, making every live episode an unmissable event,” the official description reads.
The host, judges and premiere date have not yet been announced.
The reboot is described as a “nostalgic yet fresh entry in the talent competition space” and “draws on the rich legacy of Star Search.”

Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of Canada’s most renowned female DJs, with a career spanning over 30 years. Known for her contributions to community and music organizations, she made history as the DJ for the 2023 JUNO Awards’ tribute to 50 years of hip-hop, sharing the stage with Canadian icons like Kardinal Offishall, Michie Mee, and Choclair in a performance watched by 2.2 million viewers nationwide.

As chair of the JUNO Rap Advisory Board, MelBoogie has worked to amplify women’s voices in the industry.
