According to Shams Charania, the blockbuster trade sending Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors is officially on hold. The Raptors announced they will wait for the conclusion of an ongoing NBA investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers regarding alleged salary cap circumvention before finalizing the deal.

The league informed Toronto that they would assume the risk of any potential penalties if the investigation finds wrongdoing. The probe—conducted by outside counsel—centers on a $28-million endorsement deal Leonard allegedly signed with the environmental financial firm Aspiration, which the NBA is examining to determine if it was used to funnel impermissible benefits to him.

The paused blockbuster deal proposes sending Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, a 2027 pick swap, and two second-round picks to the Clippers. There is currently no set timetable for the investigation’s completion.
