50 Cent attributed his music for “Street Fighter” to a Tupac Shakur recording originally made for boxer Mike Tyson, specifically a version of “Ambitionz Az a Ridah” that Tupac crafted for him in the 1990s.
At the Los Angeles premiere, 50 Cent said he wrote his own version of Tupac’s song after hearing it, and the film will feature it under the alternate title “Ambitionz Az a Fighta.”
The film first highlighted Tupac’s unreleased recording for Tyson in its promotional material, including the official trailer released in April, which reestablished a musical connection between the film and the boxing world.
50 Cent’s history with Tupac’s work dates back to his contribution on “The Realist Killaz,” included in the 2003 “Resurrection” soundtrack.
As he prepared for his role as Balrog in “Street Fighter,” 50 Cent faced challenges adapting to the character’s appearance, noting he had to go clean-shaven and manage an uneven hairline to fit the role.
He trained under a professional boxing coach and did cryotherapy, weightlifting, and extra cardio to embody the character realistically.
“Street Fighter” is set to open in U.S. theaters on October 16, and 50 Cent reflected on his nostalgic connection to playing the original video game as a child in local arcades.
