During the BAFTA Film Awards, activist John Davidson, who has Tourette’s syndrome, shouted the N-word while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award, causing an immediate shift in the atmosphere of the ceremony.
Host Alan Cumming apologized shortly after the incident, explaining that Davidson’s outburst was involuntary, characteristic of Tourette’s syndrome, and not under his control.
Davidson, diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome at age 25, is an advocate for the condition and inspired the BAFTA-nominated film “I Swear.”
His outbursts throughout the ceremony included additional profanities. Davidson also shouted “shut the f**k up” during an introductory speech from BAFTA chair Sara Putt.
