The initiative addresses the significant wealth gap affecting communities of color, in which limited access to banking services has left millions without accounts and reliant on costly alternatives such as check-cashing services.
According to the FDIC, around 5.6 million U.S. households are unbanked, and approximately 19 million are underbanked.
Crump noted that many individuals in underserved communities pay high fees, ranging from 10% to 25% of their earnings, for check-cashing services due to a lack of banking options.
Both Crump and LL Cool J attribute their commitment to financial inclusion to personal family experiences that highlight the importance of financial literacy and services in their lives growing up.
