Couple Climbs To Top Of Empire State Building For Proposal Stunt

Two masked people scaled the Empire State Building antenna on Wednesday and pulled off an illegal marriage proposal high above New York City.

The climbers unfurled a massive black banner near the top. The sign read, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”

Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus climbed down to a lower platform on the 1,454-foot structure. Beerkus dropped to one knee and offered a ring to Nikolau.

The two embraced and shared a kiss. Police officers waited at the base of the spire and took the couple into custody at 1 p.m.

Authorities cleared the observation deck to ensure public safety during the stunt.

An Empire State Building spokesperson said, “The unauthorized incident at the building has been resolved with the constructive and helpful coordination of the NYPD.”
