Outkast, comprising André 3000 and Big Boi, filed a lawsuit against rapper and producer Ovrkast (real name Silas Wilson) on September 16 in Georgia, alleging trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breach of contract.
The lawsuit claims that Ovrkast’s name is likely to confuse the public, leading them to believe he is associated with Outkast, particularly after he previously acknowledged that many listeners mistake his name for theirs.

Ovrkast had reportedly agreed to change his stage name to Overkxst by July 15, 2026, but failed to adhere to this agreement, prompting Outkast to take legal action.
Evidence cited in the lawsuit includes a 2025 interview where Ovrkast expressed frustration about being confused with Outkast, reinforcing the claim of public confusion regarding their names.
Outkast seeks to prohibit Ovrkast from using his name in all commercial capacities, including music, merchandise, and social media, and is pursuing damages, legal costs, and the destruction of any products bearing the Ovrkast name.
The legal action follows Outkast’s previous successful lawsuit against the EDM duo ATLiens, demonstrating their commitment to protecting their brand from perceived infringements.
Ovrkast has publicly reacted to the lawsuit on Instagram, expressing confusion and disappointment, suggesting he viewed the situation with goodwill rather than hostility.
The lawsuit includes a request for a jury trial, indicating the seriousness with which Outkast is treating this matter in defense of their legacy and trademark rights.
