Busta Rhymes will be celebrated in a major way at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.
The rap icon has been announced as the first-ever recipient of the MTV VMA Rock The Bells Visionary Award. The brand-new honor recognizes Busta’s groundbreaking career and influence on both hip-hop and music videos. At 53, he’s not just picking up the award; he’ll also hit the VMA stage with a special performance marking the moment.
This year’s show will be hosted by LL Cool J. The Queens legend co-hosted back in 2022 and made history in 1997 when he became the first rapper to earn the prestigious Video Vanguard Award.
This latest accomplishment arrives after Busta was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In early August, he received the prestigious honor, highlighting over two decades as a heavyweight in hip-hop.
The 2025 VMAs air live Sunday, September 7th at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streaming via Paramount+ in the U.S.
