The 57th NAACP Image Awards celebrated Black excellence on February 28, 2023, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, showcasing achievements in entertainment and activism.

The event featured multiple awards distributed over the preceding week, including four awards for the film “Sinners,” with Ryan Coogler winning for outstanding writing and directing, and Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku honored as supporting actor and actress, respectively.

“Abbott Elementary” received three awards, while shows like “Number One on the Call Sheet,” “Straw,” and “The Don Lemon Show” each received two awards.

Non-televised categories were awarded virtually on YouTube prior to the main event, with winners including Miles Caton for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in “Sinners” and Quinta Brunson for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.

Michael B. Jordan was named Entertainer of the Year, and Cardi B’s album “Am I The Drama?” won Outstanding Album.

Cardi B also won Outstanding Song – Hip-Hop/Rap for “ErrTime,” while Kendrick Lamar took home Outstanding Male Artist for his work.

The show concluded with several major awards, including the NAACP Chairman’s Award presented to Viola Davis, highlighting significant contributions to the industry.

The awards program aimed to uplift and recognize the contributions of Black talent across various fields, reinforcing the significance of representation in media and entertainment.
