Choreographer Frank Gatson credits Jay-Z with originating the iconic “put a ring on it” hand gesture from Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” music video.
Gatson revealed on the Dance Dish podcast that the gesture was casually suggested by Jay-Z during a conversation about what women do when they say, “Put a ring on it.”
The simple gesture of raising the hand and flashing the ring finger became a symbol of independence, self-worth, and commitment in modern pop culture.
Gatson said, “So, (Jay-Z) should get that credit.
The “Single Ladies” video was choreographed by Gatson.
