A massive copyright lawsuit against Drake over his hit “Janice STFU” has suddenly been dropped just 10 days after it was filed.
Aviel Hirschfield initially claimed he wrote the song’s catchy chorus after getting inspired by a Lykke Li track during a road trip to Seattle.
Hirschfield alleged that less than 6 months later, Drake used those lyrics verbatim to create the global hit.
Drake’s team categorically denied the allegations from the start, and called the lawsuit manufactured and baseless.
A representative for Hirschfield originally stood by the claims, and said the track was written specifically for Drake using music provided by Drake’s own producers.
But in a surprising twist, Hirschfield voluntarily dismissed the case in court right after reporters started asking follow-up questions about his allegations. As Rolling Stone reports, court documents confirm that the producer has withdrawn the lawsuit “in its entirety without prejudice.”
