The biopic “Michael,” focused on the life of pop icon Michael Jackson, is nearing $800 million globally, positioning it to potentially surpass “Bohemian Rhapsody” as the highest-grossing musical biopic ever, which grossed $911 million.
As of now, “Michael” has earned $788,047,189 worldwide, including an additional $28.5 million internationally over the past weekend, with a significant boost expected once it opens in Japan.
And now word is Lionsgate is exploring a sequel to the Michael Jackson biopic, with the studio expressing enthusiasm about the progress made so far.

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate’s motion picture division, indicated that the first film does not encompass all significant aspects of Jackson’s life and career, leaving opportunities for further storytelling.
Approximately 25% to 30% of footage intended for a potential sequel was reportedly filmed during the production of the first movie.
The first film will highlight Jackson’s status as one of the most commercially successful entertainers in pop music history, while the sequel may delve into later chapters of his narrative.
No specific details about the sequel’s plot or release have been officially disclosed at this time.
