By Anthony Savonarota A ‘digital detox’ is exactly what it sounds like, a detox from all things digital. As a concept, the purpose of digital detoxing is to abstain from communications technologies for a prolonged period of time in order to ‘disconnect by reconnecting’, meaning allowing the distraction free you get more in tune with yourself, friends and family, and external environment. There are 3 main benefits that studies have already found the digital detox could bring. 1. Posture Your posture will go from looking more forward as opposed to more down (since no longer viewing a screen or portable device). This actually increases the likelihood of more eye contact, and thus better socialization. 2. Conversational Skills Secondly, it forces you to better hone your conversational skills, since not only can you not use your phone as a mechanism for shyness, but you can't use Google to end every unknown question your social group may have with ease. 3. Clear Mind Thirdly, you will likely think much clearer. The lack of constant distraction will no longer be there, and you will be amazed at how clear you will think about what's going on in your life. Like chemical detoxing, digital detoxing can be done either individually, or with a group based effort.
