The Weeknd Starts A Campaign To Bring Back The “Skydome” Name

The Weeknd is urging Toronto to bring back the stadium’s original “SkyDome” name, telling fans at his July 27, 2025 hometown show he wants to start a petition.

Video from the concert captures him asking, “Any way to call this place the SkyDome again?”, drawing loud approval from the crowd. The venue opened as SkyDome in 1989 and was officially renamed Rogers Centre on February 2, 2005.

It’s been over 20 years since that rebrand, and many fans still refer to it as SkyDome.

DJ Mel Boogie

Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of Canada’s most renowned female DJs, with a career spanning over 30 years. Known for her contributions to community and music organizations, she made history as the DJ for the 2023 JUNO Awards’ tribute to 50 years of hip-hop, sharing the stage with Canadian icons like Kardinal Offishall, Michie Mee, and Choclair in a performance watched by 2.2 million viewers nationwide.
