Jaÿ-Z, Young Thug, OutKast, Kendrick Lamar, and Missy Elliott have been included in The New York Times’ list of the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters.
The list was curated by 250 music insiders alongside six NYT staff editors, highlighting a diverse range of artists across genres, including Babyface, Mariah Carey, and others.
Jaÿ-Z and Missy Elliott are notable for their previous inductions into the Songwriters Hall of Fame: Jaÿ-Z in 2017 as the first rapper and Missy in 2019.
Jaÿ-Z, Missy Elliott, and OutKast are also members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with OutKast being the most recent inductees as of November.
Kendrick Lamar and Young Thug are recognized as the youngest hip-hop artists on the NYT list, reflecting a new generation’s impact on the songwriting landscape.
Kendrick Lamar boasts an impressive record with 23 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including six that reached number one, while Young Thug has three number one songs and six top 10 hits.
