Barack Obama made a comedic appearance on HBO’s “Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” addressing the controversy surrounding his infamous tan suit from a 2014 press conference by suggesting it was Larry David’s idea.
The tan suit sparked significant backlash at the time, with critics labeling the choice as “unpresidential,” leading to extensive media coverage and even a dedicated Wikipedia page focused on the event.
In the sketch, David, playing himself, concocts a scenario where he accidentally spills a smoothie on Obama’s navy blue suit, prompting the president to don the tan suit instead, under the guise of “Casual Friday.”
Obama’s dynamic with David showcased a humorous push-and-pull, with Obama directing some of the comedy while David humorously took on a less authoritative role.
