Kendrick Lamar recently returned to his old high school for a major groundbreaking ceremony alongside Dr. Dre and will.i.am.

The legends visited Centennial High School in Compton to celebrate the campus’s first major construction project in 70 years.

Lamar graduated from the school in 2005, while Dr. Dre briefly attended as a freshman in 1979 before transferring.

The new state-of-the-art facility will serve around 1,800 students and is projected to cost $270 million before opening in 2029.

During a speech at the event, Dr. Dre called the return a “full-circle moment” and promised to embrace the power of “investing forward.”

Dre added, “Today isn’t just about a new building, it’s about the promise I kept to the city that made me, point, blank, period.”

While Lamar did not speak to the crowd, his beaming smile clearly showed his approval of the massive investment in his alma mater.
