Legends Recognized at Third Annual Hip Hop Grandmaster Awards

Kool G Rap and Grand Puba were honored at the Paid in Full Foundation’s 2025 Hip Hop Grandmaster Awards celebration.

The gala also featured the Quincy Jones Award for George Clinton and the Contributor Award for Kool Rock Ski and Jalil Hutchins.

Grand Puba described the event as a significant honor. He said, “This was the BET, VH1, and the Grammy Awards all rolled into one.”

The event was held in Las Vegas. Dr. Dre, Nas, Ludacris, Doug E. Fresh, and Gayle King attended.

Roxanne Shanté hosted the awards presentation.

DJ Mel Boogie

Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of Canada’s most renowned female DJs, with a career spanning over 30 years. Known for her contributions to community and music organizations, she made history as the DJ for the 2023 JUNO Awards’ tribute to 50 years of hip-hop, sharing the stage with Canadian icons like Kardinal Offishall, Michie Mee, and Choclair in a performance watched by 2.2 million viewers nationwide.

As chair of the JUNO Rap Advisory Board, MelBoogie has worked to amplify women’s voices in the industry. She also co-founded the Black Music Brunch with Maestro Fresh Wes, an annual event celebrating contributors to Black music in Canada.
